Upgrading Intel Core2 Quad 6600 to Intel Core i7 3820... worth it?

Here's just my rough percentage estimate of the improvement of Q6600 -> i7 3820 from the benchmark source @ cpu-wars.com, Intel Core i5 & i7 Game Benchmarks, Intel Core i7-3820 Synthetic Benchmarks

MULTI-TRHEADING: The factor of all upgrade reasons, speed!

q6600 @3ghz -> i5 750 = 23% improvement
i5 750 -> i7-3820 = 33% improvement
Q6600 @3ghz -> i7 3820 = 56% improvement

IDLE POWER CONSUMPTION: This is very important since 75% of the time my PC is always stays on idle... yes even browsing and playing music.

q6600 @3ghz -> i5 750 = 38% improvement
i5 750 -> i7-3820 = same
Q6600 @3ghz -> i7 3820 = 38% improvement

LOAD POWER CONSUMPTION: I always consider this when doing some code compiling and archiving files... the least important.

q6600 @3ghz -> i5 750 = 6% improvement
i5 750 -> i7-3820 = 11% improvement
Q6600 @3ghz -> i7 3820 = 17% improvement

Verdict:

Considering the die shrink from 65nm - 45nm - 32nm and the newer architecture, you should be able to feel the huge improvement on real-world apps. Worth the upgrade? Yes it should be!

So, why i7 3820 not i7 3770k? Based from my analysis on most reviews, there will be no significant difference between them. Power consumption is better but that's debatable as I would blame more to GPU.

So why not just go with better X79 platform right? It would also benefit you for more PCIe lanes (faster CF/SLI), quad channels (faster synthetic and encoding), better future proofing especially with the upcoming Ivy Bridge Extreme (IB-E), and the most of all... BRAGGING RIGHTS!

I'm not claiming I'm precise but this is just my opinion based from my analysis.
